What is Coaching?

Coaching promotes the level of self-awareness needed to make lasting change. It is not a one-size fits all, or take a magic pill type of deal. It is introspective and action-oriented. Coaching supports a growth mindset. You might not be able to ____ yet, but with a coach's support, you can overcome obstacles, maximize your potential, and live a life that you are truly proud of.

What is Coaching?

Coaching is a partnership between the client and the coach. The client knows themselves best, while the coach creates a safe space, maintains structure and organization, and promotes the growth mindset needed to make lasting change. It is action-oriented, helps the client overcome obstacles, maximize their potential, and reach their goals. Coaching is client centered. The coach will build a relationship with the client and coach them in a way that is meaningful to them.

Coaching is not therapy. The main difference between therapy and coaching is that therapists diagnose and treat mental health disorders; coaches do not. A coach is not a therapist, doctor, or medical professional. It is a collaborative approach that helps spark new ideas and perspectives, offers structure and accountability, and provides a safe, nonjudgemental space to speak freely and take positive risks. In this model, the client is invested in the choice they made, and they will either find immediate success, or learn from their choice, which will ultimately lead to their overall growth and development.

While coaching encourages the client to make their own decisions, the coach will report if the client is in danger of harming themselves or others, or if the minor client expresses that they have been physically or sexually abused.

What to Look for in a Coach

Connecting with the right coach makes a difference. Each coach has their own unique style and approach so make sure that style meshes well with the client. Look for someone who has education, experience, and professional training. Coaching is an investment for your or your daughter's future. It is not meant to last forever as coaches strive to collaborate with clients and give them the tools that they need to be successful. Many coaches offer a free consultation. Take advantage of this offer to get to know the coach and their style, ask questions, and make sure you and/or your daughter feel comfortable with the coach before moving forward.

As for my personal qualifications, I have dedicated my life's work to understanding and supporting others' growth and development. I have my master's in social and emotional learning, and have incorporated SEL into my teaching practice for 15 years. I have my bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in education and exercise biology from UC Davis. I received my personal training certification from the National Council of Strength and Fitness and trained people individually and led group exercise classes. In addition, I attended the Institute of Life Coach Training, an International Coaching Federation (ICF) accredited program. I have always been in helping professions because I truly care about others and want to support them in becoming a better version of themselves. It is who I am to the core, and I would love to support you or your daughter in your journey towards happiness and success.

What is SEL?

What is social and emotional learning, anyway?

SEL is an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning, casel.org, 2024).

CASEL's Framework

  • Self-Awareness

  • Self-Management

  • Social Awareness

  • Relationship Skills

  • Responsible Decision Making Skills

SEL supports diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice practices, in addition to trauma informed practices when working with individuals from varying backgrounds.

Proud to Be Me Coaching Style

Being a girl is hard. Despite the recent "Be Kind" movements, there is a lot of pressure to act or look a certain way, both online and in person. Insecurities can take over, and sometimes you need someone to talk to. While I have professional accolades to back me, I have suffered personal traumas and have also dealt with all the normal, yet awkward, growing pains of being a girl. Many girls I work with feel like they can relate to me, they know that I genuinely care about them, and they are able to open up, and make real change. This is not school or an extra curricular activity. I am not grading them or expecting them to hit a certain mark. I create a safe space for them to be their true, authentic selves. And there is so much power in that.

Girls come to me for coaching in things such as self-esteem and confidence boosting, communication and boundary setting, healthy peer and family relationships, healthy habits and positive body image, discovering passion and purpose, and setting personal, academic, and professional/financial goals. We will work on identifying what you want, why you want it, and how to begin working toward those outcomes.

Studies show the coaching relationship is the best predictor of coaching outcomes. I’ll establish a relationship with that is built on trust, respect, empathy, and safety. Helping and inspiring others genuinely brings me so much joy. I would absolutely love to partner with you and be part of your "Proud to Be Me" growth journey.  Because every girl deserves to be heard, seen, and inspired to follow their dreams.  Book your free consultation here.
